Valley steel company seeing rapid growth because of demand for specialized beams
Brandon Bell didn't expect his business to take off like it has.
Bell is the founder of Next Level Steel in Mesa and launched a division called Castellated Structural Group in the last year and a half, working with engineering firm PK Associates. This fall, Bell and Castellated Structural Group will open a 100,000-square-foot warehouse near Goodyear Airport for the fabrication of castellated beams.
As he launched the new division, Bell noticed that castellated beams — lighter-weight beams that use less steel but having the same strength as regular beams — used in the load-bearing structures for mainly industrial buildings were being requested more than alternatives such as joists because of the beams' strength, cost and length.
Between the two divisions, Bell expects to eclipse $100 million in revenue with more than 100 employees. Bell's companies have worked on massive projects such as the computer chip factories being built by Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and Intel Corp., along with other industrial projects throughout the Valley.
