Plaza Cos. is preparing to kick off development of a 62-acre entertainment mixed-use project next to the State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

The first project to be built at the newly named District at Sportsman's Park, Glendale, will be apartments, said Sharon Harper, chairman and CEO of Peoria-based Plaza Cos.

Harper is working with Glendale officials and Arizona Cardinals to develop this 62-acre site just south of State Farm Stadium and to the east of the new VAI Resort, which is planning to build the state's largest hotel.

Th new Mattel Adventure Park — with brand experiences from Barbie, Masters of the Universe, Hot Wheels, Thomas & Friends, and Mattel Games — is under construction within the VAI Resort.
