The new owners of Kona Grill are planning to open another location in the Valley this year.

Denver-based One Group Hospitality Inc. (Nasdaq: STKS) leased the 6,000-square-foot former Romano's Macaroni Grill space at Desert Ridge Marketplace late last year for a new prototype of Kona Grill, said Katie Hauptman, director of marketing at the north Phoenix outdoor shopping mall. The space is between Keg Steakhouse and Thirsty Lion on the western side of the mall.

“What’s really exciting is that it is going to have a really nice modern design,” Hauptman said of the new eatery. “It really does elevate the previous space that it is taking over. It will feature an outdoor dining area, which the previous locations did not have. That will really bring some exciting energy to that area.”

Hauptman said the new brand protype will feature metal and wood textures.

Kona Grill’s owners declined to comment on the new location.
