Hundreds more acres in the West Valley proposed for industrial space
The city of Buckeye is setting up additional land for future industrial development as more companies and developers consider building in the West Valley.
Buckeye's planning commission on Tuesday recommended approval to rezone about 310 acres from residential to light industrial.
The site is currently used for agricultural purposes and is located between Baseline Road and Southern Avenue just west of State Route 85. It's currently surrounded by other agricultural properties. The subject property is owned by GV Turner LLC and Roosevelt Irrigation District, according to documents submitted to the city.
If approved by Buckeye City Council, the large property, currently owned by two entities, will help support the growth of SR 85 as a growing industrial corridor for the municipality, resulting in more jobs within Buckeye.
"The location provides an ideal opportunity for warehousing and large scale employment based development located adjacent to and with convenient access to SR 85," documents submitted to the city said.
Although many industrial facilities are being developed in neighboring West Valley cities Goodyear and Glendale, Buckeye has started to see significant activity in the industrial sector in recent months with a new battery manufacturing plant, a Ross distribution center, Five Below and toy company Funko.
