How Goodyear's new economic development exec is shifting gears on recruiting companies
The city of Goodyear was one of the first West Valley cities to kick off industrial growth along the Loop 303 corridor and has seen a surplus of warehouses being built around its airport that have become home to a number of logistics companies.
While some major industrial projects are still on their way to Goodyear, the city's new economic development leader said she wants to shift the city's focus away from distribution uses and more toward clean energy, light manufacturing and also retail and restaurant growth.
Wendy Bridges was named Goodyear's interim economic development director last fall and later took on the permanent role in 2023 alongside Goodyear's newly appointed city manager, Wynette Reed. She first joined the city of Goodyear after previously working for the city of Avondale and Prescott.
Goodyear has repeatedly been named one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation and is in the process of building out its remaining prime sites with a new downtown and civic center, industrial parks, a ballpark village with new retail and housing, mixed-use projects and master-planned communities.
