Crime, taxes and climate change among why homeowners decide to relocate
Homeowners who moved since the Covid-19 pandemic began cited crime as the biggest factor in their decision, according to a new study by real estate firm Redfin.
The survey, 1,023 U.S. residents who moved to a new home since March 1, 2020, was fielded from Aug. 7, 2021 to Aug. 12, 2021 by research technology company Qualtrics, and found 50% of homeowners said crime was an important factor in their move.
Homeowners also cited cost of living, school quality and taxes in order of importance, according to the survey. Renters saw things differently, however, with cost of living being the factor most cited, followed by crime and school quality, since survey respondents could say multiple factors were important to them.
