Commercial, residential projects progress through several Valley cities
Buckeye City Council moved forward this past week with multiple requests that could bring new commercial and residential development to the growing municipality west of Phoenix.
An existing master-planned community called Westpark south of Interstate 10 on both sides of State Route 85 will now be slated for a mix of uses including industrial, retail, restaurants and thousands of residential units.
The eastern portion of the master-planned community was developed between 2005 and 2010 with more than 1,000 homes and a school. The plan was first approved as a 1,060-acre community master plan in 2000, while the first couple of phases have been completed.
Now, Scottsdale-based Garret Development Corp. is proposing to develop the remaining sites on nearly 500 acres in Westpark by adding 80 additional acres on the west side of the site to help the city bring more industrial development and jobs to the area. Industrial and commercial uses could also be developed along SR 85.
Council approved an amendment to its general plan, which guide's a city's long-term growth, a rezoning request and a development agreement for the property on Dec. 7. The changes to the master plan for Westpark will allow for a mix of housing product and provides an updated water master plan in addition to adding industrial uses.
In total, the remaining undeveloped property in Westpark could see up to 2,639 new residential units...
